Best New Indie Band
Oct 5th
I have found a great new indie band, Speck 5. Go to www.Speck5.Com to listen to the music, or you can go to reverberation.Com, it’s there too. Speck 5 is innovative and creative music. It’s completely out there at times but yet keeps a solid foundation of song structure and movement so that you don’t feel like your “out there”. It is hard to explain, but maybe the best way is to say that it’s almost a cinematic experience to listen to the music. That is, when a song is over, especially the title track to the debut CD, 21st Century Freak, you don’t just feel like you heard something incredible, you almost feel like you saw it as well. Like I said, hard to explain. Just go listen to it, track #2 is my favorite (today) with tracks 1 and 5 right behind it. If you like this artist, support him, it’s just one guy doing everything you hear. That includes the production and engineering work! Freaking fabulous work, love that it’s out there for us!!!

What’s Online On Theglassmagazine.com

As August closes we review what Glass has seen and covered this warm and wet Autumn.
Highlights have been:
We visited the Netherlands, by way of the Shanghai Expo and the work of the equally unusual artist and architect John Kormeling. His projects are idealized, filled with humor and also often impractical. At the world exhibition Kormeling has had the freedom extend his vision to full capacity.
From China we travelled to Russia to find not humour, but a distinct curtailing of artistic expression where Glass examines the recent scandal surrounding the Forbidden Art exhibition. Organizers of the show have been charged with inciting religious hatred by putting controversial figures on display. We examine where this censorship may take us.
However this world does seem a seductive pull for other creatives and we examined the endeavours of fashion designers, Helmut Lang,Hussein Chalayan, Shalimar perfumers Guerlain and the inimitable Carlo Brandelli’s stellar career so far in the fine art arena. Our exclusive video-editorials from the talented likes of Nicole Nodland (for Chanel), Victor De Mello, Bruno Centofanti , Mari Sarai and Emma Macfarlane stunned, inspired and generally kept us thrilled with their superlative beauty.
If all the high drama and high culture left you in need of some rest and respite, our intrepid travel editor travelled (with you, vicariously) to Morrocco and was seduced by sumptuous cuisine, eclectic old-world architecture and a sensory assault of colour, smell, sights and sounds. Closer to home (depending on where you call it), our food critics ventured from three-star Michelin destinations in London to an island hideaway restaurant in Singapore. Whilst in the Orient, the publishers to travel haute monde, h2g, brought us round the brave new city that is Beijing. It’s a hard life.
Ibanez Rg321mh — Saving Cost And Still Loving It
Jul 23rd
There are times in a person’s life when $300 looks like $300k. At such times you are very careful about how much you invest into anything. It doesn’t matter whether you are a guitarist or NOT. Sometimes you just want quality with the price tag. Thankfully, Ibanez RG321MH electric guitar gives you that option. But the good thing is that you’d still be loving it.
For most guitar makers, quality has to be at a very steep price. Don’t get me wrong. You can’t expect a certain level of quality without parting with reasonable cash. However, you should be able to get something that’s down to earth without having to take a second mortgage. That’s the point I am stressing and that’s what this guitar will give you.
If you want the frills and extras that you’d get on custom guitars, then you have to pass this on. However, if you want a guitar that will get the job done without ruining your credit rating, then you have your baby.
Should we still teach music history?
Apr 22nd
There is a lot of discussion about whether we should ever create Music History Lesson Plans for high school music, or not. Some say that music history is not worth teaching at all, and that we should instead be concentrating on composition and creative elements in the music classroom. Its all very well for a teacher with years of experience who knows all the knowledge to say that teaching about the composers is old school and no longer relevant, but they know the knowledge! They are cheating it out of the children if they don’t teach it regularly in the schools! How can children learn to compose if they don’t look at the music of the great composers? It was Mozart who remarked when hearing music of Bach ‘Now there is something one can learn from!’ If Mozart wanted to learn music history, who are we to cheat it out of our school students?
